Introduction

In November of 2006, I was scheduled to travel to France (again) for a friend’s birthday party. Unfortunately, I missed the flight….

The airline tickets were on Delta Airlines and they gave me credit for another flight of similar value to use within a year. There was some minimal cost for re-booking the flight to another destination so I basically had my choice of European destinations for another vacation.

I chose Amsterdam and traveled there in October, 2007. It was only a long weekend, but I did lots of walking around. I had no automobile (which is good) so I relied on public transportation. Public transportation and cycling in northern Europe is excellent – no auto is really needed.

The weather was mostly cloudy and a bit rainy, but I was in Amsterdam.

This travel log is mostly just pictures. I walked around Amsterdam for 3 days and visited a friend for a few hours on the last day before leaving.

Enjoy.

Architecture

The first collection of pics is of the architecture. I’m not an architect, but I love looking and inspecting old buildings and learning their history.

One can read all sorts of travel logs about northern European architecture on the Interwebs so I’m not going to replicate that information here.

Some of the buildings should be recognizable as they have rather significant historical value.

Bicycles!

And more bicycles! Everyone rides bicycles!

One can find interesting history of bicycles in Amsterdam HERE.  A good read.

Other pics

Here’s a collection of pics that aren’t architecture or bicycling related. Lots of canals, boats, and cars.
